Getting Started

Welcome to BasePack! This guide will help you understand how to use the app effectively for planning your outdoor adventures.

Packing Lists

Packing lists help you organize what to bring on each trip.

Sections

Items in a list are organized into sections. Sections are local to each list - you can name them however you like.

Adding Items

  1. Click the "+" button in a section
  2. Choose to add a new item or import from inventory
  3. Fill in the item details

Importing from Inventory

When you import an item from your inventory, it creates a copy in your list. You can choose to link it so changes sync between the list and inventory.

Inventory

Your inventory is where you store all your gear permanently.

Categories

Categories help you organize your collections. Examples: Shelter, Sleep System, Cooking, Electronics.

Items

Each item belongs to a collection. Track weight, price, and other details for accurate trip planning.

Collections

Collections are global - they're shared between your lists and inventory.

How Collections Work

  • Collections group similar items (e.g., "Tents", "Backpacks")
  • Collections can belong to a category in your inventory
  • When you import an item to a list, it keeps its collection
  • Renaming a collection updates it everywhere

Uncategorized Collections

Collections that aren't assigned to a category appear in an "Other" section in your inventory.

Cloud Sync

Web App

  • Guest: Data stored locally in your browser
  • Signed In: Data syncs to cloud automatically

Mobile App

  • Guest: Data stored locally on device
  • Free: Data stored locally (no cloud sync)
  • Pro: Full cloud sync + realtime updates

Pro Benefits

  • Sync across all devices in real-time
  • Automatic cloud backup
  • Offline support with automatic sync when back online

FAQ

Will I lose my data if I clear my browser?

If you're signed in, your data is safely stored in the cloud. If you're a guest, clearing your browser will delete your local data.

How do I upgrade to Pro?

Go to Settings and tap on "Get BasePack Pro" to view subscription options.

Can I use BasePack offline?

Pro users can use the mobile app offline. Changes will sync automatically when you're back online.

What happens to my data if I cancel Pro?

Your data remains in the cloud. On mobile, you'll switch to local-only mode, but your cloud data stays safe. You can access it again if you re-subscribe.
